Daily Life

In order to survive the entire family had to work hard, and together. Each member had a role to play and a contribution to make. The men and older sons concentrated on clearing land, carpentry of needed farm buildings and dwellings, and tending livestock. Women took care of the basic needs of her family, cooking, cleaning, making clothing., but women and kids also helped to clear land, plant, and harvest. The more a family worked together the more productive and prosperous the family would be. The sharing of work also prepared kids for adulthood, but also caused many to not see the importance of education. As you tour the village, you will see daily life in 1866 in action.
